Southern Style Biscuits
| 2 cups flour |
| 2 heaping teaspoons baking powder |
| 1 teaspoon sugar |
| 1 cup vegetable shortening |
| 1 cup milk |
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
- In a large mixing bowl combine flour, baking powder, and sugar.
- Add shortening and rub in with your fingers or use a pastry blender. Combine until mixture is crumbly.
- Add a little bit of milk at first and then add the rest. The dough should be sticky.
- Turn dough out onto a floured board. Don't work the dough too much. Pat the dough out gently. Cut the biscuits using a round cookie cutter. Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet.
- Bake at 400 degrees F. for 15 - 20 minutes.
- Serve immediately
Note: You can put the biscuits in the refrigerator overnight before cooking.
